Operation Outsmart - Unreal Programmer
Physics-based vehicle builder RPG
My job at Unifiq was my entry point into the games industry, and I was hired as a programmer for their indie project Operation Outsmart. Since it was such a small team and all of us were new to the games industry, we all had a lot of say in the direction of the game. Because of this I also took up a lot of the game design responsibilities on the project, designing quests and levels for the main story as well as leading discussions on potential features such as a skill tree or vehicle puzzles.
While I didn't stay at Unifiq games for very long, I am still proud of the work I accomplished during that time and it taught me a lot for moving forwards with my career.
From this trailer in 2022 you can see some of the work I produced. I designed and programmed the dialogue tree system to allow easy and modular implementation of new dialogue trees and allowed for relationship levels with the koalas or other external factors to affect dialogue options. I was also tasked with implementing various vehicle parts such as the hammer shown off in the video. The enemy robot AI, health bars, and dialogue popups were all designed and implemented by myself.
The game evolved a lot in the months after I left the company, but the work I contributed to the project remained up to the final version of the game before it was cancelled. I'm very proud of the team for such a huge improvement in the game's aesthetics in just a few short months and am looking forward to seeing how their next project Unhinged goes!
